US-Russian woman jailed for 12 years for just $51 gift


A Russian citizen of Russian origin has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for giving only $51 to a charity in Ukraine. The verdict was issued by a Russian court in Yekaterinburg on Thursday (August 15). News from the BBC.


Kesnia Carelina, 33, who lived in Los Angeles, went to Russia for a family visit. He was arrested during the visit and accused of global traitoring.


At the end of the hearing, Carlin was convicted. The court of Yural city of Yekaterinburg gave this verdict. The court said Carelina had been engaged in conspiracy against Russia by paying a charity company.


The same court also convicted journalist Ivan Garshkovich in July. However, he was released later through the prisoner exchange agreement. He was arrested in Russia at a meeting with his family in February this year.


The US authorities have not yet responded to Carliner’s arrest and verdict. However, human rights organizations strongly condemned the incident as a judicial assassination.
